Meet Keyonna, our Data Analyst here at Madison Reed. Known equally for her logical analysis and seriously gorgeous hair, we thought Keyonna would be the perfect person to review our Color Therapy Color Depositing Hair Mask—and we were not wrong. True to her analytical nature, Keyonna tried not one, not two, but THREE shades of Color Therapy, told us what she thought of them, and even gave us a few other tips to get hair as flawless as hers...
BLOG.11.11_CTM review
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR HAIR. FIRST UP: WHAT DO YOU LOVE ABOUT IT?
I love how versatile it is—seriously, I change my hairstyle about every 2-3 weeks. One of my biggest dilemmas is usually what my next style is going to be—my natural coils, braids, twists, extensions, wigs...so many options! While it does increase style time, I love how thick my hair is. It makes me feel like I have the biggest crown on my head.

WHAT DO YOU NOT LOVE ABOUT YOUR HAIR? WHAT ARE YOUR HAIR CONCERNS?
While I love everything about my hair, the pain points are:
1.my hair is high porosity which means retaining moisture is difficult
2.the time it takes my hair to dry
3.the frizz (I’m slowly learning to embrace it, but it’s hard!)
Having high porosity hair, I have to make sure I do protein treatments often and deep condition multiple times a week. I bought a salon-type hair dryer a few months ago, and that has helped to cut my dry time down to a few hours (I know it sounds long, but it takes my hair 2-3 days to air dry because it’s so dense). Lastly, my hair is frizzy, which also comes with highly porous hair, so I’m slowly embracing my frizzy coils.

DO YOU COLOR YOUR HAIR? IF SO, WHAT SHADE DO YOU USE?
I’ve done a lot of things to my hair, but coloring is one thing I have yet to try.

HAVE YOU EVER USED A COLOR DEPOSITING HAIR MASK BEFORE? IF SO, TELL US ABOUT IT.
I have! While I really liked the color result I got, the clean up in the bathroom and how stained my hands were was a little more than I bargained for.

WHICH SHADE OF COLOR THERAPY DID YOU USE?
I’ve used Caffé, Dorato, and Castagna. My favorite has been the golden tones I get with Dorato.

HOW DID COLOR THERAPY MAKE YOUR HAIR LOOK AND FEEL?
SO SOFT! I was beyond impressed by the amount of hydration I got from this mask. Color Therapy performed as well as deep conditioners that I have paid double the price for. My hair has some golden hues to it naturally, but after a few uses of Dorato I got so many compliments on the tone of my hair.

WHAT DOES A GOOD HAIR DAY FEEL LIKE AND LOOK LIKE TO YOU? WHAT ABOUT A BAD HAIR DAY?
My perfect hair day is when I can get optimal hydration and definition without my gel flaking. Getting just the right amount of leave-in conditioner to styling cream to gel is tricky, but when the product ratio is just right, I’m all smiles!

On the flip side, when I use the wrong product mix or add a new product to my routine that doesn’t mesh well with my staple products, it’s a recipe for disaster! When this happens, my hair will either be flaky, super frizzy or not hydrated enough. The worst part of it all is I have to start my wash day all over because there’s usually no saving my hair.

WHAT ELSE DO YOU DO TO PROTECT YOUR HAIR COLOR OR TO KEEP IT LOOKING FRESH?
I don’t color my hair, but to keep my hair looking as fresh as possible, I do a ton of masks/deep conditioning treatments and drinking as much water as possible to keep my hair hydrated. I’ll also do protein treatments biweekly. I recently purchased a hair steamer to take my deep conditioning to the next level (I’m very excited about it!).

AND FINALLY, JUST FOR FUN: WHAT HAIR STYLE OR COLOR HAVE YOU ALWAYS WANTED TO TRY BUT HAVEN’T YET?
Pink or blonde!

Thanks, Keyonna, for reviewing Color Therapy for us! And we think you would ROCK both pink and blonde hair...new year, new hue for you? Keep us posted!
