Madison Reed Reviews: Genova Red Hair Color - Before and After

Lisa C. from Berkeley, California talks Genova Red, the perks of hair gloss, and why chemicals aren’t proportionate to color.

We know you have a lot of choices when it comes to coloring your hair. Why Madison Reed?

I always try to use products from companies that are conscious of the chemicals they are using, that areethically friendly, and that give amazing results.

How did you decide on your current color?

Originally I completed the online color-matching quiz. Then I spoke with one of Madison Reed’s professional colorists, who suggested using the permanent color on my roots, and trying Color Reviving Gloss in Cannella to refresh my existing color rather than adding another layer of pigment which can become uneven over time.

How does your color make you feel every day?

I've been consistently happy with my color. The permanent color does a great job of covering roots, and the gloss gives such a nice bright color and fades much more slowly than I would expect with a semi-permanent color.

Prior to using Madison Reed, had you colored your hair at home before?

I have always almost exclusively colored my hair at home, using both box kits and mixed my own color from the beauty supply store.

Got it. So what makes our Radiant Cream Color Kit different?

Compared to other at-home color, Madison Reed does a great job with both the styling and functionality of the product. The kit gives the aesthetic of a more luxury experience than your typical hair color through its packaging and small touches, like two sets of nice, fitted gloves (one for the application process and one to protect your hands when washing), and the inclusion of barrier cream and wipes to make sure the color stays on your hair and not your face.

Any tips for someone trying Madison Reed color for the first time?

If you haven't colored your own hair before, my two tips (besides reading the instructions!) are to make sure your hair is slightly dirty/unwashed, and to comb or brush out and section your hair before beginning to make the application process run more smoothly.

Pro Tip from Madison Reed: There is a super helpful tutorials page on the Madison Reed website to show you how.
