And the 2020 Nominees for Best-Tressed...

Best in Hair Awards 2020

It’s called Hollywood’s Biggest Night, but for beauty and fashion lovers, the Academy Awards can be a Couch’s Biggest Night, too, as we watch the red carpet from the comfort of home to ooh and aah over the plunging dresses, the sparkly jewelry, and the hair. Oh yes, the hair. We watched with notebook in hand to bring you the winners in Best Tressed, from coifs to color, bangs and beyond…

Best Wow-Worthy Hair Color: Cynthia Erivo
Cynthia was an absolute showstopper, from the swirling gown to the clustered ear cuffs splendidly presented with her pearly white closely cropped hair. And those nails? Nailed. It.

Best Bold Bang: Janelle Monáe
She arrived wearing a hooded silver Ralph Lauren gown adorned with 168,000 crystals, and as if that wasn’t glam enough, Janelle then opened the show rocking a strong, bold bang (accented with a strong, red lip).

Best Girl With a Pearl in Her Part: Lucy Boynton
You know, roots—but make ‘em red carpet. That’s just what Lucy did with pearls strung along her partline. Who knew you could accessorize your roots?

Best Barely-There Bangs: Saoirse Ronan
We believe this is a new look for Saoirse—short, wispy fringe—and we love how it delicately frames her face. Bonus points for the jewel-studded butterfly clip.

Best Natural Hair: Zazie Beetz
Natural texture took center stage with a top knot of voluminous curls and a truly stunning bib necklace. We LOVE.

Best Confident Crop: Charlize Theron
Charlize rocks a close crop like no one else, and we are loving this deep-parted platinum pixie that is as bold as her Dior Couture dress.

Best in Gloss: Penelope Cruz
No one does Hollywood Beauty quite like Penelope Cruz, and her sleek, pin-straight glossy ebony hair paired with a statement Chanel gown did not disappoint.

Best Balayage in a Bob Role: Natalie Portman
We cannot get enough of Natalie’s choppy, laid-back blunt bob, perfectly accented by a cool balayage color. The cherry on top is, of course, the cape she wore lined with the names of eight women snubbed for Best Director nominations.

Best Use of Silver String: Scarlett Johansson
That’s right. String. Albeit a glittery silver string, but still. How incredibly cool is Scarlett’s chignon tied up with a string that matches the metallic of her dress??

Best Silver On Screen: Jane Fonda
Social activist and screen legend Jane Fonda wore a previously worn dress to present the last award of the evening, and shocked everyone with her stunning icy silver locks.

Best Hair Win Ever: Hair Love
We were ecstatic to see “Hair Love” win Best Animated Short Film, and beyond thrilled that the creative team behind the movie invited DeAndre Arnold as their guest to the awards show. DeAndre is the high school senior who drew national attention after he was told by school officials that he wouldn’t be allowed to walk at his graduation if he didn’t cut his dreadlocks. A beautiful movie with an invaluable message.
